FFSL President’s Cup to restart football

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) will restart football activities after the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the ‘FFSL President’s Cup 2020’.

Aside from the FA Cup, this will be the first major tournament that the FFSL will conduct after the 2018 Dialog Champions League concluded in February 2019.

According to the FFSL, they were unable to conduct any tournament for around one and half years due to the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks and the monsoon rains. However, even with the said obstacles many tournaments of other sports were conducted successfully. Mainly, the Schools Rugby tournament re-started within a month of the Easter Sunday bombings.

The main objective of this invitational tournament will be to reinvigorate football in the country and to scout talent for the National team.
