The Group D fixture between St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa and Lumbini College, Colombo of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 commenced today at Colts Cricket Grounds in Colombo. The all-round skills of Janishka Perera of St. Sebastian’s College was the highlight of the first days’ play.

The Lumbini College skipper won the toss and invited the opposition to take the first lease of the wicket. Sebastian batsmen did not post an impressive total on the board as they were bowled out for 144 runs in 47.1 overs.
18-year old right-handed batsman Janishka Perera who has represented Sri Lanka U19s, top scored with a knock of 64 runs. Right handed batsman Dunith Jayathunga who played for the Kandy team in the recently concluded U19 super provincial tournament, supported him at the other end scoring 39 runs for the Sebs.

Ravinda Rasanka was the pick of the bowlers for Lumbini College as he grabbed a 5-wicket haul for 40 runs. In addition, Ramesh Madushanka picked up 3 wickets for 46 runs. After restricting the strong batting line-up of St. Sebastian’s College for a modest total, a better batting display was expected from Lumbini College but Janishka Perera had other ideas as he ran through Lumbinis’ batting line-up restricting them to 47 runs for 7 wickets at the close of play on day one.
The right arm fast medium bowler Janishka Perera picked up 5 scalps for 16 runs while left arm fast medium bowler Sashika Perera took 2 wickets for 24 runs. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
