Three matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were worked off today across the island. All three encounters ended in draws but St. Benedict’s College, Colombo and St. Anthony’s College, Wattala managed to claim first innings points in their respective encounters.

St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena vs Wesley College, Colombo

The traditional fixture between St. Benedict’s College and Wesley College ended in a draw today at St. Benedict’s College Grounds in Colombo. Wesley College resumed day two on 51 runs for 1 wicket but the middle order collapse saw them bowled out for 138 runs in 63 overs. 

Sahil Dias top scored with a knock of 71 runs for the visitors. Right arm fast medium bowler Onila Pathirana was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he grabbed 5 wickets for 32 runs. Malinda Perera supported him at the other end picking up 3 wickets for 54 runs. 

St. Benedict’s College began their second innings 18 runs ahead and posted 59 runs for 2 wickets at the close of play on day two. Shehan Fernando remained unbeaten on 34 runs for the hosts.

St. Anthony’s College, Wattala vs Zahira College, Colombo

The traditional fixture between St. Anthony’s College and Zahira College ended in a draw today at Zahira College Grounds in Colombo. Zahira College resumed day two on 22 runs for 3 wickets and were restricted to 123 runs in their first innings. Off spinner Amitha Sandeepa was the pick of the bowlers for the Antonians as he took 4 wickets for 27 runs. 

In addition, Romesh Suranga (3/21) and Gihan Sathmika (2/08) shared 5 wickets between them. The visitors began their second innings 8 runs ahead and put on a much-improved batting display as they finished day two on 161 runs for 2 wickets. Left hander Gihan Sathmika stroked an unbeaten 96 runs while Kanishka Gimhan chipped in with a valuable half century for the visitors.

St. Anthony’s College, Kandy vs St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa   

The traditional fixture between St. Anthony’s College and St. Sebastian’s College also ended in a draw today at St. Anthony’s College Grounds in Kandy. After being put into bat first, the hosts were bundled out for 122 runs in 42.1 overs. Mohomad Kamil stroked a half century for the Antonians. Shashika Perera was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he claimed 4 scalps for 23 runs.

In addition, Supun Fernando chipped in with 3 wickets while Nadeera Lakshan picked up 2 wickets for the Sebs. The visitors could not a face a single ball as the rain interrupted play on day two.
