Today, the Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament saw the boys from Rathgama, Colombo, Ambalangoda and Pannipitiya battled it out for points in gloomy weather at the Thurstan College Grounds and Dharmapala College grounds.

Devapathiraja College, Rathgama Vs Thurstan College, Colombo

The contest between Devapathiraja College, Rathgama and Thurstan College, Colombo was held at Thurstan College Grounds as the boys from Rathgama got lucky with the toss and decided to bat first.

The visitors piled up a huge 278 in the day’s play thanks to right hander Jeewaka Shaheen’s and skipper Kalpa Chethiya’s dominating partnership for the 5th wicket. Shaheen missed out on a deserving century by just 2 runs while his partner played a brilliant supporting role with an impressive 73. 

Before stumps, the two set batsmen were dismissed but the visitors left the field on a high, 278/7 at the end of 83 overs.

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda Vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya

Day 01 of the group B contest between Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya commenced at the Dharmapala College Cricket Ground after a 4-hour rain delay as the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

Only 51.3 overs could be squeezed out after the long delay, as Dharmasoka College were struggling on 95/6 at stumps. Yohan de Silva was the only batsman who showed any fight as he remained at the crease unbeaten on 35 at the end of the day.
