2018 Dialog Champions League delayed

The 2018 Dialog Champions League will take place towards the latter half of the year, the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) confirmed through a media release.

Sri Lanka National Pools announced

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) announced the National Pool ‘A’ & Pool ‘B’….

The tournament is now scheduled to start in September rather than in June, to when discussions were happening to bring forward the kick-off date.

The media release states;

“Kindly note that the FFSL decided to kick-off the Dialog Champions League 2018 in the latter part of September 2018. This decision was made after FFSL had discussions with all Dialog Champions League 2018 clubs on 5th April 2018 at FFSL Head Quarters.”

The main reason for this decision was due to the National Team’s engagement in the SAFF Championship from 4-15 September 2018 in Bangladesh and the preparatory training programs scheduled for them out of the country from July onwards.

“All clubs have insisted that they require the services of the players selected for the national pool for them to have a formidable team in the Dialog League and opted to commence the championship from September 2018 onwards.”

For this year’s league, Police SC & Moragasmulla SC have been relegated while Premier League Division I champions, Red Star FC & runners-up Ratnam SC have been promoted.

The 2017 champions were Colombo FC while the runners-up were Renown SC, both for the third consecutive time.
