U23 Cricket – SSC, NCC, Army and CCC secure semi-final spots

U23 Semi-Finals

Colombo CC, Navy SC, Police SC, Ports Authority, NCC, Negombo CC, Army SC, BRC and Lankan CC all registered wins on the final match day of the round robin stage in the U23 Division 1 T20 tournament.

Saracens vs Colombo CC

Colombo CC registered a 4 wicket win over Saracens SC. Batting first Saracens managed just 119 for 9 in their quota of 20 overs. Tharushan Iddamalgoda made 32 for Saracens while Chemila Obeysekera scored 30. Colombo CC did not have it all their way as they were made to work for their win,  losing 6 wickets in the process but managing to scruff their way to a win.

Navy SC vs Old Thurstanites SC

Navy SC recorded a comfortable win over Old Thurstanites SC  by 31 runs. Batting first Navy SC scored a competitive 163 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Madhura Madhushanka scored a briliant 53 as Thushara Samarakoon managed 46. Old Thurstanites SC never looked comfortable in the chase and eventually fell short by 31 runs after being bowled out for 132 in 18.5 overs.

Air Force vs Police SC

Police SC’s wonderful run chase guided them to an extraordinary 5 wicket win over Air Force in the game played at P. Sara Oval. Batting first Air Force scored 158 in 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Imesh Udayanga’s sensational 74 guided Police SC to a comfortable 5 wicket win.

Ports Authority vs Rio SC

Ports Authority were given  a bit of a scare before being bowled out for just 119  Rio’s batting let them down as Ports Authority managed a 24 run victory. Batting first Ports Authority were bowled out for a low 119 as Ransika bagged 4/16 for Rio. In reply Rio SC managed only a mere 95 in 17.4 overs.

NCC vs Bloomfield

NCC stormed their way into the semi-finals following a close win against Bloomfield. Batting first at home NCC managed a satisfactory 171 in 20 overs. Thimira Jayasinghe top scored for NCC with 44 as Niroshan Dickwella managed 40 runs. In reply Bloomfield managed only 164 after being bowled out in the penultimate ball in the match.

Negombo CC vs Panadura SC

Negombo CC won a nail biting encounter against Panadura SC by 2 runs. Batting first Negombo managed a below par 130 for 9 in 20 overs. Panadura SC were on course but fell ever so close to their target after being  restricted to 128 in 20 overs.

Army SC vs Colts CC

Army managed a crucial win as they beat fellow contenders Colts CC to book their place in the semi-finals. Batting first Army scored a rather competitive 145 in their allotted 20 overs. Regular loss of wickets hampered Colts progress as they were bowled out in the final over of the game for 106 runs. With this 39 run win Army progressed through to the semi-finals.

BRC vs Centralized CC

BRC managed a gigantic 70 run win over Centralized CC in the game played at P. Sara Oval. Batting first BRC managed 164 for 9 in their quota of 20 overs. Raminda Wijesuriya top scored for BRC with 61 as Lasith Lakshan made 32 runs. In reply Centralized CC were bundled out for a cheap 94 handing BRC a calm and easy win.

Kurunegala YCC vs Lankan CC

Lankan CC managed a 7 wicket win beating Kurunegala YCC in the final round robin game. Batting First Kurunegala managed 102 before  being bowled out in 18.4 overs. Pramud Hettiwaththa’s unbeaten 47 and Sanjula Abeywickrama’s unbeaten 39 was enough as Lanakan CC made easy work of the target reaching 106 for the loss of just 3 wickets in the game played at FTZ grounds Katunayake.

With the Round Robin stage drawing to a close SSC will face NCC in one semi-final while Army SC will face Colombo CC in the other semi-final that would be played on the 13th of August.
