Sri Lanka registered their first win in 18 One Day Internationals against India in Mumbai on Tuesday to qualify for the Super Six stage and knock the hosts out of the World Cup.

 

Sri Lanka have registered their first win in four games against India in the World Cup (Lost two and NR 1). Sri Lanka’s 138-run triumph is their biggest by runs’ margin in the World Cup, surpassing the 32-run victory over South Africa at Pretoria on April 1, 2005. India have suffered their fifth biggest defeat in terms of runs in ODIs – their biggest against Sri Lanka.

The 138-run defeat is India’s second biggest in terms of runs in the World Cup, next only to the 153-run loss to Australia at Auckland on January 10, 1982. Sri Lanka (282/5) have recorded their highest total in the World Cup, outstripping the 244 for nine against England at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on February 1, 2013. The above total is the highest by any team against India in the World Cup, eclipsing the 272 for eight by England at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on February 3, 2013.

Sri Lanka’s aforesaid total, in fact, is their highest in ODIs, obliterating the 251 for five against Ireland at Colombo, PSS on April 28, 2011.

The 117-run partnership for the second wicket between Yasoda Mendis and Deepika Rasangika is a Sri Lankan record in the World Cup for any wicket, outstripping the 103 for the first wicket between Chamari Atapattu and Yasoda Mendis against England at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on February 1, 2003. Mendis’ 55 is her career-best score in ODIs, eclipsing the 51 against the West Indies at Lucas Street on April 27, 2012.

Deepika Rasangika (84 off 109 balls) has set a Sri Lankan record for the highest individual innings in the World Cup, surpassing the 78 not out by Hiruka Fernando against South Africa at Pretoria on April 1, 2005.

Rasangika’s above innings is her maiden fifty in ODIs. The said knock is the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan player against India in ODIs. Rasangika’s 84 is the third highest individual innings by a Sri Lankan player in ODIs – the highest is 111 by Chamari Atapattu against Ireland at Colombo,PSS on April 28, 2011. Rasangika’s innings is the sixth highest individul score against India in the World Cup.

Rasangika has received her first Player of the match award in ODIs. Shashikala Siriwardene (59) registered her sixth fifty in ODIs – the second against India. The said innings is her highest-ever in the World Cup (her third fifty in the World Cup). In the 2005 WC, she had posted 52 against the West Indies at Benoni on March 28 and 58 against Pakistan at Canberra on March 9, 2009. Eshani Kaushalya’s 56 not out is her third fifty in ODIs – her second against India. Her career-best is 57 against India at Jaipur on December 18, 2006.

Jhulan Goswami (3/63) produced her third best performance in the World Cup – the best being 4 for 16 against the West Indies at Pretoria on April 1, 2005.

Goswami has become the second player to complete 150 wickets in ODIs – 152 at an average of 21.69 in 129 matches – the record is held by Australia’s  Cathryn Fitzpatrick – 180 wickets at an average of 16.79 in 109 matches.

Gouher Sultana (10-0-72-0) has recorded her worst bowling performance in ODIs. The said performance is the worst by any Indian bowler in the World Cup, eclipsing her own performance of 10-0-68-1 against England at Mumbai on February 3, 2013.

Sultana’s above two performances are the worst by an Indian bowler in ODIs. She is the only one to concede more than 65 runs in an innings twice in this format.

Reema Malhotra’s 38 is her second highest score in the World Cup, next only to the 59 not out against New Zealand at Sydney on March 17, 2009

India (144) have been dismissed against Sri Lanka for the first time in ODIs.
