Two games of Singer U19 Division One Cricket Tournament 2018/19 came to a close while three more games got underway. St. Anthony’s College, Wattala played against Kingswood College, Kandy while St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy are hosting Mahinda College, Galle. Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya, St. Servatius’ College, Matara, St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, Mortu Maha Vidyalaya are all playing games around the island.

St. Anthony’s College, Wattala vs Kingswood College, Kandy

Batting first, Kingswood College scored 124 runs for their first-innings. The boys from Kandy struggled against some tidy bowling by the Antonians. Asitha Gamage’s 29 runs was the only decent performance by the Kingswood batsmen. Pathum Vihanga and Hashen Malik picked up 3 wickets each.

St. Anthony’s College surprised everyone as they were bowled out for 81 runs. Deegayu Bandara, Harsha Wickramasinghe and Lakmal de Silva were the pick of the bowlers for Kingswood as they picked up two wickets each with extreme control.

Kingswood failed to capitalize on the edge they got as they surrendered for just 113 runs in the hands of the Antonian bowlers. Pathum Vihanga wrapped a fifer taking his match-bag count to 8 wickets.

Skipper, Joel Pinto made sure that his team is home with a responsible 70 runs with the bat for St. Anthony’s. The Antonians scored 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and won the game by 3 wickets.

St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy vs Mahinda College, Galle

Mahinda College won the toss and elected to field first. St. Sylvester’s racked up a 293 runs which seemed mountainous for the first innings. Kevin Nimshan was the main man of the show with a blistering 140 runs to his name.

Mahinda College could manage only 188 runs for the first innings with the help of Ashen Kandamby’s half-century. Nadeera Balasooriya did most of the damage for Mahinda as he picked up 4 sclaps for 56 runs. The follow-on was enforced and Mahinda made up for their mistakes in the first innings ias they scored 224 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and declared their innings.

Mahinda even managed to pick up four wickets in the St. Sylvester’s second-innings for 34 runs. But, the game ended in a draw with the Vesters earning first-innings points.

St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa vs Moratu Maha Vidyalaya

The clash between two Sri Lanka U19 stars took place at Moratuwa where the current Sri Lanka U19 failed to deliver to his alma mater while the outgoing star shined with hundred to his name. St. Joseph Vaz College won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a 141 runs for their first-innings with the top-score being Nipun Dhananjaya’s 28 runs. Vishwa Didulana recorded a fifer to his name.

In reply, Moratu Maha Vidyalaya got themselves to a commanding position with 171 runs on board for the loss of just 1 wicket, thanks to Nishan Madushka!

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya vs St. Servatius’ College, Matara

Dharmapala College scored 167 runs for the first-innings after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Avishka Hasarinda was the top-scorer for Dharmapala College with 39 runs while Chethaka Denuwan picked up 4 for 46 runs.

St. Servastius’ was at 91 for 2 at the end of the day following an early collapse. It was Chethaka Denuwan again who delivered for St. Servatius’ as he scored a steady 76 runs and is still at the crease.
