Royal College, Colombo were crowned champions of the U17 Inter-Schools Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2026 after defeating S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia by 72 runs in the final played today (11th September) at the P. Sara Oval Grounds in Colombo.
Having been asked to bat first, Royal College posted 205 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Manuth Dasanayake led the way with a brilliant unbeaten 92 off 87 balls, striking 8 fours and 5 sixes in a match-winning innings.
For S. Thomas’ College, Shenuk Fernando and Tharul Jayasuriya were the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets apiece.

Chasing 206 for victory, S. Thomas’ College struggled against a disciplined Royal College bowling attack and were bowled out for just 133 runs.
Mahiru Kodithuwakku was the standout performer with the ball for Royal College, producing a superb five-wicket haul for 32 runs to lead his side to a convincing 72-run victory.
