The Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19 will get underway next week with the participation of 36 teams in 4 groups.

The tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA), will see the cream of schoolboy cricketers in action from September 2018 to April 2019.

Each team will play 8 tournament games and a maximum of 7 traditional matches in the season. All teams should play a minimum of 3 tournament matches and 2 traditional games before the season comes to a halt on November 25th for G.C.E O/L examinations.

The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage which will be played right after the league stage is completed on or before 15th February next year. The groups were seeded from last season’s standings.

“All schools advised not to play more than 15 matches from this season as per the direction given by the Ministry of Education. The other tournament rules and playing conditions will not be changed.” SLSCA secretary Dilshan De Silva told ThePapare.com.

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo won the championship last season under Jehan Daniel’s leadership beating Trinity College, Kandy in the final.

After ending in the bottom of the table last season, St. John’s College, Panadura and Bandaranayake College, Gampaha were demoted to division 2, while St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala and Devapathiraja College, Rathgama will play in the top division this season.
