Two matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19, was conducted today in Kandy and Hambanthota.

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya vs Dharmaraja College, Kandy

The traditional fixture between Dharmapala College and Dharmaraja College concluded today without a result for either side, at the Dharmaraja College Grounds in Kandy. Yesterday, the opening day of the match was washed out due to rain without a single ball being bowled. Today the Dharmaraja College skipper won the toss and opted to field first in their own backyard.

Dharmapala College posted 141 runs for 5 wickets before umpires called stumps on day two. Ashen Egodage top scored with unbeaten 41 runs, while Amila Dayanaka contributed with a valuable 30 runs for the visitors. Left arm leg spinner Upendra Warnakulasooriya picked up 2 wickets for 33 runs for the hosts.

Devapathiraja College, Rathgama vs St. Benedict’s College, Colombo

The ‘Group A’ fixture between Devapathiraja College and St. Benedict’s College commenced today at MRIC Grounds in Hambanthota. After winning the toss the St. Benedict’s College skipper decided to field first, and posted 171 runs for 7 wickets at stumps on day one.

Sudeera Weerarathne top scored with 48 runs, while Thisara Dilshan remained unbeaten on 35 runs for Devapathiraja College. Off spinner Mahesh Theekshana picked up 3 wickets for 52 runs for the lads from Colombo. The match will continue tomorrow for day two.
