Sri Lanka Women’s team beat United Arab Emirates Women’s team by 11 runs (DLS) in the 4th match of Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022 played today (02nd October), at Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

Sri Lanka Skipper Chamari Athapaththu won the toss, and opted to bat first tthis time in their second game of the tournament. They made one change to the playing XI, bringing in Kaushani Nuthyangana in place of Oshadi Ranasinghe.

Sri Lankan opening pair Athapaththu and Harshitha Madavi gave the team a decent start, putting on 23 runs for the first wicket in 3.2 overs. Sri Lanka’s main weapon with the bat, Athapaththu, was the first to be dismissed in the innings as she lost her wicket for just 6 runs.

The No. 3 batter Hasini Perera’s stay at the crease was also short, as she was stumped for just 2 runs. The opener Madvai was the only batter who looked impressive at the crease for Sri Lanka. She made 37 runs off 40 balls with 4 fours, but after her departure, the Sri Lankan batting order collapsed and were restricted to just 109/9 in the allotted 20 overs.

The left-arm seamer Mahika Gaur troubled Sri Lankan batters with seam in the first half of the innings, and then the spin of Vaishnave Mahesh skittled out the middle order. Mahesh and Gaur shared 6 wickets between them.

Sri Lanka got off to a good start with the ball dismissing the opening batter Esha Rohit Oza early in the innings for just 4 runs. The rain halted the play when UAE were 20 runs for 1 wicket at the end of 4 overs.

After the resumption of play following the rain break, the target was revised as 66 runs from 11 overs. However, the inexperienced UAE batters stuttered chasing down the revised target under the DLS method and were restricted to just 54/7, handing a 11-run thrilling win for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan spin twins Inoka Ranaweera and Kavisha Dilhari bowled brilliantly, taking 2 wickets each. Sri Lanka will take on Thailand in their next game on the 04th October, at the same venue.
