Sri Lanka missed out a place in the Semi-Finals of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024 as they suffered a humiliating defeat against South Africa in their Final game of the Super Six round played today (2nd February) at Potchefstroom.

After been put into bat first, the hosts got off to a decent start as their opening pair, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Steve Stolk, put on a 63-run stand for the first wicket.

However, the Sri Lankan bowlers managed to peg things back, picking up wickets at regular intervals to restrict South Africa to 232/8 in the allotted 50 overs.

Sri Lankan spinners Supun Waduge, Vishwa Lahiru and Malsha Tharupathi starred with the ball, claiming 2 wickets each.

In reply, Sri Lanka were knocked over for just 113 as Kwena Maphaka and Riley Norton ripped through their batting lineup, sharing all ten wickets fallen. Maphaka delivered a devastating spell, claiming 6 wickets for 21 runs, while Norton picked up 4 wickets for 28 runs.
