Sanjula Abeywickrama’s ton leads Isipathana to first innings win

Two matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 conducted today around the island.  

St. Peter’s College, Colombo vs Isipathana College, Colombo  

Isipathana College managed to record a first innings win against St. Peter’s College in the traditional encounter which concluded today at St. Peter’s College ground. Isipathana College resumed day two on 131/4 and declared their innings at 341 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Former captain Sanjula Abeywickrama scored a magnificent knock of 150 runs for the visitors. Left arm spinner Mohamad Ameen was the pick of the bowlers for St. Peter’s as he bagged 3 wickets for 96 runs. For the second innings, St. Peter’s College scored 139 runs for 2 wickets at stumps. Sulakshana Fernando top scored with 65 runs while the skipper Santhush Gunathilaka scored a half ton for the home side.

De Mazenod College, Kandana vs Nalanda College, Colombo

Traditional encounter between De Mazenod College and Nalanda College commenced today at De Mazenod College ground. Nalanda skipper won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. However, De Mazenod College could only bat for 47.5 overs in their first innings as they were bundled out for 176 runs. Pasindu Rajamuninda (45) and Krishan Sanjula (39) were the top contributors with the bat. Samindu Wijesinghe and Raveen De Silva were the main destroyers with the ball as they picked up 4 wickets each. In reply, Nalanda could only manage to score 133 runs all out for their first innings. Right Arm Medium Fast Bowler Mithila Geeth picked up 5 wickets for the home side while Praveen Fonseka and Romal Fernando picked up 2 wickets each. At stumps on day one, De Mazenod College were 1 runs for no wicket for their second innings. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
