Sri Lanka U19 squad for ICC U19 Youth World Cup

Richmond College batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis will lead the Sri Lanka U19s at the ICC U19 Youth World Cup 2018 in New Zealand.

The 13th edition of the event, featuring 16 teams, will be held from January 13 to February 3.

Mendis will become the second successive player from Richmond College, Galle to lead Sri Lanka U19 cricket team after Charith Asalanka did the honours in the 2016 edition.

Mendis rose to fame in the last Youth World Cup with his ambidextrous bowling. Josephian all-rounder Jehan Daniel will serve as the vice-captain of the side.

Batting failure costs semi-final berth for Sri Lanka U19s?

The Sri Lanka U19 Cricket team was beaten comprehensively..

Mendis and Daniel are the only two members of the current squad to have played in the 2016 tournament in Bangladesh.

As many as 12 players who featured in the recently concluded Under 19 Asia Cup in Malaysia, where Sri Lanka were knocked out of the group stage, have been named in the line-up.

The 15-member squad along with the standby players will train in Pallekelle throughout the next week under the watchful eyes of the head coach Roy Dias.

Sri Lanka will compete in a tough group D against former winners Pakistan, Asia cup champions Afghanistan and Ireland.

SLC is yet to officially release the squad.
