SL U19 vs SA U19

South Africa U19s made light work of the Sri Lanka U19s in the 1st youth ODI worked off in Oudtshoorn today.

After losing the Tri-series final to the same opposition a few days back, the South Africa U19s got back to their winning ways as they cruised to a comprehensive seven wicket win.

The Sri Lankan U19 skipper Avishka Fernando won the toss and decided to bat first and he along with Vishva Chathuranga got a decent start for the visitors.

They put on 53 runs for the opening wicket and number 3 batsman Krishan Sanjula continued the good work as the Lankans were well placed at 93/1 in just the 15th over.

Things started to fall off rapidly from there on after the loss of Chathuranga (37) and the Sri Lankans were eventually bowled out for 214.

Sanjula starred with the bat once again stroking a stylish half century but none of the Lankan middle and lower order batsmen managed to make a valuable contribution as the visitors folded up in the 49th over.

In reply, the Proteas were reduced to 3/46, but that was as close as Sri Lanka got to make a comeback into the game as Mitchell van Buuren(92*) and Raynard van Tonder(89*) put on an unbroken 169 for the fourth wicket.

Praveen Jayawickrama picked up two wickets early on for Sri Lanka while the hero from the Tri-series final Nipun Ransika picked up the other wicket to fall, but this was not enough to prevent the Proteas from cruising to victory in the 48th over.
