11 matches of the SLC Major Club Youth Tournament were worked off today at different venues around the island. SSC, NCC, Tamil Union CC, and Colts CC registered wins continuing their unbeaten winning streak in the tournament.
Sinhalese Sports Club managed to record their third consecutive win of the tournament thanks to the brilliant performance of right-handed batsman Nuwanindu Fernando (108) and left-arm speedster Kalana Perera (4/22). With this win, SSC climbs to the top of Group D registering 3 wins out of 3 matches played so far.
Hasitha Boyagoda’s all-round show guides NCC to victory; Kamindu Mendis strokes a ton
Mohomed Shamaz (90), Pasindu Sooriyabandara (57), Dinuka Dilshan (53), Praveen Jayawickrama (3/23), and Kavishka Anjula (3/28) showed an impressive performance as Moors Sports Club registered a 94-run victory over Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC.
NCC continued their winning streak as they convincingly defeated Saracens SC with the contributions of Dineth Jayakody (78), Kalana Wijesiri (50), Chamika Gunasekara (2/06), and Ashain Daniel (2/18).
The encounter between Colts CC and Kalutara Town Club went down to the wire but the Colts lads held their nerve to record a 1-wicket victory. National capped Avishka Fernando scored his second consecutive half-century for Colts CC while speedster Nipun Ransika and left-arm spinner Rohan Sanjaya picked up 3 wickets each with the ball.
The left-handed batsman Navod Paranavithana stroked an elegant half-ton with the bat helping Tamil Union Cricket Club to register their third consecutive win of the tournament. Lankan Cricket Club shocked renowned outfit Chilaw Marians Cricket Club as they defended a modest total of 197 runs successfully.
Harith Fernando’s 88 earns a win for Army SC
Former Cambrian stroke maker Vishwa Chathuranga led the batting effort with a half-century while left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage (3/16) and left-arm seamer Yasiru Rodrigo (2/15) shone with the ball for Lankan CC.
In the other encounters, Nipun Haggalla (68) of Bloomfield CC, Sasith Manuranga (51) of Kandy Customs SC, Harith Fernando (65) of Army CC, Manisha Rupasinghe (72) of Ragama CC, Yesith Rupasinghe (60) of BRC, Nisal Francisco (53) of BRC, Bhagya Dissanayake (76) of Navy SC and Shalith Fernando (52) of Navy SC showed their colors with the bat scoring valuable half-centuries for their respective teams.
