SLC Major Club Youth Tournament got underway with many young guns competing for glory. 10 games of the tournament were worked off today, 16th September 2020.

Army SC got off to a flying start in the tourney with Harith Fernando boosting them for a 300-plus score in the tournament opener against Nugegoda S&WC. He was supported by Bishan Mendis who made an elegant 79. Sakuna Liyanage of Nugegoda S&WC put up a fighting knock of 72 runs even though he ended up on the losing side.
In the game between, SSC and Kurunegala Youth CC, a couple of former Sri Lanka U19 caps stole the limelight with match-winning half-centuries. Left-handed sensation Nipun Dhananjaya scored 77 runs while Sammu Ashan added an unbeaten 72 runs to take SSC past the target of 170 runs in 37.2 overs.
Malinda Jayod of Badureliya CC, impressed with his performance in the tournament opener scoring 86 runs going in at a tricky situation. His knock helped Badureliya to start the tourney with a win over BRC.

Another former Sri Lanka U19 captain, Kamindu Mendis, struck a skillful 66 with a lot of ease to give Chilaw Marians a 6 wickets win against Panadura CC.
Star with the ball in hand for the day is the young guileful paceman from Galle, Amshi de Silva. The Richmondite bagged 5 wickets for just 12 runs against Bloomfield C&AC. His fearsome spell at the start helped CCC to restrict Bloomfield for just 97 runs which CCC passed with no tremors.
Muditha Lakshan (69) of Nugegoda S&WC, Santhush Gunathilaka (58) of Colts CC, Vinura Dulsara (50) of Galle CC, Navod Paranavithana of Tamil Union C&AC, Bhagya Dissanayake (60) of Navy Sports Club, and Malindu Maduranga (55) of CCC all scored half-centuries today registering their presence in the tournament.
