Six matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island.

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs De Mazenod College, Kandana

Prince of Wales College managed to record an innings victory against De Mazenod College in their Group B fixture which concluded today at Prince of Wales College grounds in Moratuwa. Cambrian spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara who has been in tremendous form this season picked up a 7-wicket haul to lead his side to an innings victory.

Dharmaraja College, Kandy vs St. Servatius College, Matara

The Group C fixture between Dharmaraja College and St. Servatius College ended in a draw today at Dharmaraja College grounds in Kandy but the visitors managed to take first innings points. However, the hosts showed a much better batting display in the second innings with Isuru Dayananda (86) and Dulaj Bandara (61) making valuable contributions with the bat.

The Group B fixture between Dharmasoka College and Zahira College ended in a draw today at the Galle International Cricket Stadium but Zahira College managed to claim first innings points. The batsmen dominated the second day’s play as M Rifath from Zahira College and Hasitha Rajapaksha from Dharmasoka College stroked centuries.

Mahanama College dominated the first day’s play in their traditional fixture against Thurstan College which commenced today at Bloomfield grounds in Colombo. After being put into bat first, Mahanama College posted 295 runs for 5 wickets at stumps on day one. Sonal Gamage top scored with a knock of 108 runs while Pawan Rathnayake remained unbeaten on 101 runs at the crease. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

The traditional fixture between St. Mary’s College and St. Sebastian’s College which commenced today at Katuneriya grounds was evenly poised at close of play as both teams struggled with the bat. The disciplined bowling effort shown by Sithum Akalanka helped the Sebastianites to restrict the opposition to 147 runs. In reply, the visitors also struggled with the bat as they finished day one on 103 runs for 5 wickets.
