Three matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island. Maliyadeva College managed to take honours in the drawn encounter against Devapathiraja College while Sri Lanka U19 cap Kalhara Senarathne showed his tricks with the ball, picking up a 5-wicket haul against a strong outfit from St. Sebastian’s College.

Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala vs Devapathiraja College, Rathgama

Group A fixture between Maliyadeva College and Devapathiraja College concluded today at MRICS, Hambantota. The match was ended in a draw but the first innings points were won by Maliyadeva College.

Maliyadeva College resumed day two in a strong position at 211 runs for 2 wickets and declared their innings at 260 runs for 6 wickets in the 65th over. Muditha Premadasa (71), Chaluka Attapattu (66) and Supun Sumanarathne (50) scored half-tons for Maliyadeva College.

Richmond College, Galle vs St. Anthony’s College, Wattala

Group D fixture between Richmond College and St. Anthony’s College commenced today at St. Anthony’s College grounds in Wattala, but the match was largely affected by rain. Visiting skipper won the toss and asked the opposition to bat first.

The match was conducted for only 14 overs as the heavens opened up to stop the play for day one. When rain stopped play, St. Anthony’s College was in deep trouble losing 4 wickets for just 25 runs. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa vs St. Anthony’s College, Kandy

Traditional fixture between St. Sebastian’s College and St. Anthony’s College commenced today at St. Sebastian’s College ground in Moratuwa. After winning the toss, hosts’ skipper opted to bat first and posted 178 runs all-out in their first innings. Dunith Jayathunga (77) and Sukitha Prasanna (36) top scored for the Sebastianites.

Sri Lanka U19 cap, off spinner Kalhara Senarathne was the star with the ball for the Antonians as he grabbed 5 scalps for 58 runs. In addition, Asitha Wanninayake and Nimnaka Jayathilaka picked up 2 wickets each for Kandy boys. In reply, St. Anthony’s College was 6 runs for no wicket at stumps on day one.
