De Mel will replace Graeme Labrooy as the Chairman of Selectors. Along with Labrooy, Gamini Wickremasinghe, Jeryl Woutersz, and Eric Upashantha have been replaced.
The rest of the new committee reads as Brendon Kuruppu, Hemantha Wickremaratne, Chaminda Mendis while national head coach Chandika Hathurusingha will continue to function as the selector-on-tour.
The new committee was appointed on Sunday by the Sports Minister, Faiszer Musthapa as per the recommendations of the Cricket Advisory Committee.
The first task of the new selection panel will be to select the squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour.
De Mel, a terrific fast bowler during his playing days served in the national selection committee for a couple of times since 2004.
