Five matches of the Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League – Tier A tournament began around the island today (4).

CCC vs Saracens

Left arm spinner Chamikara Edirisinghe had a day to remember with the ball, but CCC fought back late in the day thanks to their experienced left armer Malinda Pushpakumara.

Edirisinghe bowled impressively picking up wickets at regular intervals but didn’t get a lot of support as CCC fought their way to a competitive 238 all-out.

Edirisinghe finished with astonishing figures of 9/87 while Madawa Warnapura’s half century stood out for CCC.

Saracens unfortunately couldn’t build on their dominance as Malinda Pushpakumara’s 4 wicket haul left them in all sorts of trouble at 47/5 when stumps were drawn.

Ragama CC vs Tamil Union

Supeshala Jayathilaka struck a brilliant century as Ragama CC took control of their encounter against Tamil Union.

Jayathilaka whose effort comes after his maiden first class century a couple of week’s back, helped Ragama CC amass 356/7 on the opening day.

Janith Liyanage also made a vital half century while Dinuk Wickramanayake and Jeevan Mendis picked up two wickets apiece.

Moors SC vs Army SC

Dushan Vimukthi’s dream season continued as he captured a five wicket haul to send Moors crashing to 110 all-out.

Only Adeesha Thilanchana made a notable contribution with 35 runs as the rest of the batting fell prey to some top quality spin bowling by the soldiers.

Army already secured a 19 run first innings lead with six wickets in hand at close on day 1 with Ashan Randika top scoring with 32.

SSC vs BRC

A century from the promising Sammu Ashan guided SSC to a competitive 289 all-out in their encounter against BRC.

Ashan went on to hit 125 runs while none of the other batsmen passed the half century mark.

Left arm spinner Duvindu Tillakaratne bowled best for BRC picking up 5/65.

BRC in reply made a streaky start as they reached stumps at 57/1, trailing SSC by a further 242 runs.

SLPA vs Chilaw Marians

Yohan de Silva and Primosh Perera got half centuries to guide Ports Authority to 233 all out in their encounter against Chilaw Marians CC.

Indian born Sagar Paresh was the star with the ball for the Marians as he picked up 6/70 to run through the middle and lower order of SLPA.

Chilaw Marians ran in to trouble in reply as they ended the day on 54/4 with Oshada Fernando unbeaten on 30*.
