Cambrian spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara rattles D.S.Senanayake

Five matches of the Singer Schools Under 19 Division  Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island. Cambrian left-arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara took 11 wickets in the match against D.S. Senanayake College and guided Prince of Wales College to an innings victory.

D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo vs Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa

Prince of Wales College resumed day two on 150 runs for 4 wickets and managed to post 271 runs all-out for their first innings. Devaka Peiris was the top scorer with 61 runs while Dilshan de Mel (38) and Kaumal Nanayakkara (36) chipped in with useful contributions with the bat for the Cambrians. Methushan Kumara and Chamath Yatawara picked up 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively.

Kaumal Nanayakkara dismantles D.S.Senanayake College

DS batsmen began the second innings 170 runs behind and were bundled out for just 69 runs, handing an innings victory to the Cambrians. Left-arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara who picked up 5 wickets in the first innings took another 6 wickets in the second innings making his match tally into 11 wickets for 53 runs.

Maris Stella College, Negombo vs Isipathana College, Colombo

Group A fixture between Maris Stella College and Isipathana College commenced today at St. Sebastian’s College grounds in Katuneriya. After winning the toss, Maris Stella College skipper opted to bat first and put 249 runs on the board for their first innings. Ravindu Fernando (90) and Ashan Fernando (72) were the top scorers for the lads from Negombo.

Thevindu Dickwella and Ravindu Rathnayake shared 6 wickets between them. In reply, Isipathana College scored 118 runs for 5 wickets at stumps on day one. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Traditional fixture between St. Thomas College and St. Mary’s College commenced today at Uyanwatte grounds. St. Mary’s College skipper won the toss and put the opposition into bat first. St. Thomas College scored 201 runs for 9 wickets before declaring the innings. Harindu Jayasekara (62) and Nipun Ruchira (55*) starred with the bat for the Matara boys.

Group B fixture between President’s College and Dharmasoka College commenced today at Aarons grounds in Bulathsinhala. After been put into bat first, President’s College batsmen struggled to put on a big score as they were bundled out for just 130 runs in their first innings.

Lohan Aroshana bowled brilliantly for Dharmasoka College with figures of 6 wickets for 36 runs. In reply, Sokians made 160 runs for 8 wickets at stumps on day one. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
