Sri Lanka has made its mark at the 5th Asian Youth Athletics Championship held in Uzbekistan, with Ayomal Akalanka winning a bronze medal in the boys 400m hurdles.

Ayomal’s road to the medal began in the Preliminary round, where he finished first with a time of 52.39 seconds. This was also the fastest time in that round, which secured his place in the Final. In the Final race, he clocked his personal best time of 51.40 seconds, earning him a well-deserved Bronze medal.

The Gold medal in the Boys 400m Hurdles was won by Mahamat Akbar of Qatar, who completed the race in 50.91 seconds. India’s Bapi Sansda finished second with a time of 51.38 seconds.

In addition to Ayomal’s success, Sri Lanka had several other winners in the tournament. Nilupul Pahasara won the Silver medal in High Jump, while Kasuni Nirmali and Thushen Silva won the Bronze and Silver medals respectively in the Girls 800m and Pole Vault events.

The achievements of Ayomal Akalanka and the other Sri Lankan athletes in the 5th Asian Youth Athletics Championship are a source of inspiration and pride for the entire nation.
