Nilupul Pahasara and Kasuni Nimarli secured another 2 medals for Sri Lanka yesterday (29th April) in the ongoing 5th Asian Youth Athletics Championship which is being held in Uzbekistan

Participating in the boys’ high jump event, Nilupul won the silver medal with an impressive performance of 2.01 meters. Meanwhile, Lesanadu Atharvidu finished in fifth place with a performance of 1.90 meters.

Lesandu, who won a medal in the 4th Asian Youth Championship fell short of his goal to win a medal this year. Nonetheless, Nilupul’s performance was commendable as he secured the silver medal on his behalf.

Similarly, Kasuni Nirmali represented the country in the girls’ 800m event and managed to win the bronze medal by finishing the race with a time of 2:17.04 minutes.

This is a significant achievement, especially considering that Kasuni had represented Sri Lanka in the girls’ 1500m event in last year’s Asian Youth Athletics Championship and won medals.

In addition to Nilupul and Kasuni’s successes, Ayomal Akalanga, who participated in the boys’ 400m hurdles preliminary race yesterday (29th), qualified for the final by finishing the race as the first with a time of 52.39 seconds. It is also noteworthy that Ayomal recorded the fastest time in that round, which consisted of two qualifying matches.
