The 9th edition of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship is all set to take place on the 12th and 13th of February 2020 in Hangzhou China. Sri Lanka will be fielding 7 of their finest athletes on the track and field for this year’s competition.

The 2019 South Asian Games held in Kathmandu Nepal proved the most successful for the Lankan athletes in its history at the Games, as they brought home 15 Gold medals from track and field. Seven athletes among the Gold medalists have been chosen to kick attempt to kick it up a notch at the Asian Indoor Championship, come February.
Sri Lanka’s only triple Gold medalist at the 2019 SAG games, 20-year-old Dilshi Kumarasinghe has been included in the team for the 400m and 800m events, while South Asia’s fastest man over 400 meters, Aruna Dharshana will also compete in China.
Sri Lanka’s own iron woman Lakshika Sugandi will compete in the Women’s 60m Hurdles as well as her pet event, the Pentathlon event. Nilani Rathnayake will take charge in the Women’s 1500m as well as the 3000m event, following her massive success in Nepal.
Indunil Herath will once again aim for Gold in the Men’s 800m event rounding up the track events for Team Sri Lanka.

Hashini Praboda and Sarangi Silva will compete in the Triple and Long Jumps respectively, as the only two representatives in the Field events. Both won Gold at the South Asian Games. Unconfirmed yet, the sports ministry will be looking at fielding a Women’s 4x400m relay team in China as well.
