After a few months delay the 2018 FA Cup Championship, organized by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) will kick-off on 22nd April.

This year the knockout tournament will have 715 clubs from 60 Football Leagues participating. The Championship will consist of Three Stages; The League Stage, District/Provincial Stage & The Final Stage.

The League champions from the 60 leagues will qualify for the District/Provincial Stage. The Champion teams of each league are eligible to register players on loan from their respective League teams prior to the District/Provincial Stage. The number of on ‘Loan Players’ shall be decided by the FFSL Competitions Committee.

Army drub Java Lane to retain FA Cup crown

Army retained their FA Cup title in some style as they drubbed Java Lane 5-1 in a one sided final at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

32 teams will be selected from the District/Provincial Stage to move into the Round of 64, where the selected 32 will meet previous season’s Last 32.

From the Round of 64 until the Semi-Finals it will be an open draw. FFSL Competitions Committee shall decide upon the format of the competition format. Such decisions are final and binding and not appealable.

First Stage matches will be played within the respective Leagues and shall be conducted by the League Secretaries in coordination with Competitions Department of the FFSL in accordance with the competition fixture.

Non-Citizen or Foreign Participating Players are not allowed to register in the FA Cup. Each participating club may register maximum of three (3) players who are employed permanently or temporarily (volunteer basis) in the Sri Lanka Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force), Police and/or Civil Security within the twenty-five players at registration.
