Four encounters in the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were worked off today in Colombo and Moratuwa. St. Peter’s College, Royal College and Prince of Wales College managed to draw their encounters against Dharmapala College, St. Sebastian’s College and S. Thomas College respectively but claimed first innings points.

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo

The Group B fixture between Dharmapala College and St. Peter’s College ended in a draw today at St. Peter’s College Grounds in Colombo. The hosts were 110 for 3 overnight and put on 274 runs for 9 wickets before declaring their innings. Reshika Santhush was the top scorer with the bat for the Peterites as he made a classy 81 runs.

Pasindu Dimuditha was the star with the ball for Dharmapala College as he picked up 3 wickets for 48 runs. The visitors began their second innings 103 runs behind and continued their struggle with the bat posting 84 runs for 7 wickets at stumps on day two. The Peterite left arm spinners Kanishka Maduwantha (4/58) and Ruwin Senevirathne (3/05) bowled well in tandem, sharing 7 scalps.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa vs Royal College, Colombo 

The Group D fixture between St. Sebastian’s College and Royal College ended in a draw today at St. Sebastian’s College Grounds in Moratuwa. The visitors resumed their first innings today at 1.40 pm due to the prevailing weather conditions and posted 252 for 9 before the skipper made the declaration. 

Sri Lanka U19 cap Ahan Wickramasinghe, who has been left out of Sri Lanka U19 tour of Bangladesh due to disciplinary issues, stroked a brilliant 95 runs. Lahiru Madushanka, who starred with the ball last week picking up a 5-wicket haul, showed his prowess with the bat, scoring an unbeaten half-ton.

Shashika Perera and Supun Fernando starred with the ball picking up 3 wickets each for the hosts. The hosts began their second innings 129 runs behind and another poor batting display saw them stuttering at 60 for 5 at the close of play on day two. Off spinner Prashan Kalhara who picked up 5 wickets in the first innings, added 3 more wickets to his tally.

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia 

The Group B fixture between Prince of Wales College and S. Thomas’ College ended in a draw today at Prince of Wales College Grounds in Moratuwa. The visitors were struggling at 32 for 2 at stumps yesterday but the boys from the school by the sea managed to post 212 runs in their first innings. Umayanga Suwaris top scored with 52 runs for the visitors.

Ravindu Janith showed a disciplined bowling effort picking up 5 wickets for 91 runs. The Cambrians batted for the second time in the match with a 41-run lead and posted 58 for 3 at the close of play on day two.

Nalanda College, Colombo vs St. Anthonys College, Wattala 

The Group C fixture between Nalanda College and St. Anthony’s College commenced today at Nalanda College Grounds in Colombo. The Nalanda College skipper Avishka Perera won the toss and opted to bat first but they were uprooted for just 180 runs in 54.4 overs. The skipper Perera was the chief contributor with the bat for the hosts as he struck a classy 63 runs. 

Kaveesha Dulanjana was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with figures of 5 wickets for 63 runs. The Antonians could not begin their reply with the bat as rain brought an early end to the first day’s play.
