New Young’s SC recorded their second consecutive win in as many weeks as they edged passed a resource less Air Force SC by 1-0 scoreline, in a Dialog Champions League Super 8 clash worked off at Kelaniya football complex.

New Youngs SC came into this clash at the back of a thumping win over Navy SC as they bullied them in a 4-1 victory. Air Force on the flipside have had a dismal Super 8 campaign this time around as they were seeking their first win. Despite having a 5 casualties due to suspension including their star striker Hasitha Priyankara, New Youngs started off proceedings on the front foot with the likes of Foster Amaadi making some early inroads.

However, neither side managed to take control of proceedings due to their own careless mistakes and their inability to control midfield. Foster Amaadi posed a constant threat yet Kumara Lankeshwara managed to hold fort for the Airmen. As the game approached the first quarter Mohomed Fauzan came from his own half with a lung busting run to beat 3 men in the process to find himself inside the Air Force penalty area. He took a belter of a shot to beat the Air Force custodian to score a scintillating individual goal to break the deadlock.

The remainder of the half produced very few opening for either team as the intensity and physicality of the game increased. New Youngs took a slender lead into lemons with Air Force having to put some thought into their offense.

The second half began with an instant injection of pressure by the lads from Vennappuwa. Once again after a few minutes of excitement game went to a dull phase as quite a few lackluster errors stemmed the flow of the game. Nipuna Bandara and star man Kavindu Ishan struggled throughout the game for the Airmen as their lack of impetus in offense cost the Air Force lads dearly.

Strong challenges flew in from either side as a few cautions were dished out for both teams. Air Force woke up to the task during the last 10 minutes of the game as they stepped on the accelerator. Yet, they inability to become clinical in front of goal made life easy for Kavisha Perera and his defense. New Youngs had a few openings to put the game to bed on the counter however, Foster Amaadi’s inability to shurgg off his partial injury made life easy for Kumara Lankeshara in defense.

The final whistle brought an end to a demoralizing game for the Airmen who remain winless come the latter stages of the Super 8 phase as their performance on the day has summed up their campaign this year thus far. Despite fading away during the latter stages Foster Amaadi produced some of the best football of the game as he posed a constant threat throughout the game with his relentless pace and bullish power.
