Five matches in the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were conducted today (18), with St. Anthony’s College, Wattala all-rounder Avishka Tharindu securing the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan player in U19 Cricket.
Sri Lanka U19 cap Avishka Tharindu resumed his marathon innings on 281 on day 02 and went onto score 350 runs in just 285 balls, including 56 boundaries and 3 sixes against Lumbini College. He surpassed the previous highest individual score of 310; achieved by Dhammika Vaas (Maris Stella College, Negombo) against St. Peter’s College, Negombo in 1996.

The triple centurion did not stop there and blasted a quickfire 79 in the 2nd innings team before the clock ran out on day 02. Lumbini College was bundled out for just 160 runs as Kaveesha Dulanjana ran through the opposition batting line up with a 7-fer. The game ended as a draw.
The traditional encounters including the Mahanama-Trinity battle and the battle between St. Thomas College, Matara and St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy, also concluded in draws today. Pawan Ratnayaka of Mahanama College and Shashika Basnayake of St. Sylvester’s College starred in their respective contests.
Ratnayake hit an unbeaten century on day 01 of the fixture, while Basnayake created an outside chance of winning for St. Sylvester’s College with a 5-fer in the 2nd innings, restricting the boys from Matara to just 129. The Kandyans could only muster 147 runs in the chase of 194 for the fall of 6 wickets at the stumps of day 02.
