Four traditional encounters of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were played today (11th March) across the island. The opening batsman of Mahinda College, Navod Paranavithana stroked a quadruple century in a traditional fixture against Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda.

Mahinda College, Galle vs Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda     

The traditional encounter between Mahinda College and Dharmasoka College ended in a draw today at Mahinda College Grounds in Galle. Sri Lanka U19 capped left-hander Navod Paranavithana set a new record scoring the highest individual score in Schools Cricket in Sri Lanka. He stroked 409 runs off 326 balls including 39 fours and 19 sixes at a strike rate of 125.46.

Interestingly, Avishka Tharindu of St. Anthony’s College, Wattala just renewed the record for the highest individual score in Schools Cricket a month ago scoring 350 runs against Lumbini College.

Devapathiraja College managed to take the honors in the drawn encounter as they came quite close to a victory later on in the day. Sudeera Weerarathne of Devapathiraja College was the standout performer as he took a match bag of 8 wickets for 84 runs.
