A total of six games were played in the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament today(6th January) for day one, showcasing intense battles between bat and ball across the island.
There were some notable performances in the U19 schools’ cricket circuit today. Isuru Fernando and Sanjana Senevirathne stole the spotlight with two brilliant centuries against St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala, putting the hosts on the back foot by the end of the day’s play.

Dilash Kumaranayaka, the other centurion of the day, put D.S. Senanayake College in the driving seat in their fixture against Nalanda College, Colombo. Setting a commanding total of 316, D.S. Senanayake has given the Nalandians a challenging target, especially with the consistent performances of the D.S. bowlers this season.
Isipathana College ended the day on a high in their Tier ‘B’ encounter against Wesley College at Campbell Park. Wesley was bowled out for just 91 in their first innings, thanks to brilliant bowling by Chanul Dinodh, which laid the perfect platform for Isipathana’s batters to express themselves. After securing a slender lead of 142 runs, Isipathana further strengthened their position by claiming three wickets in Wesley’s second innings.
St. Sebastian’s College enforced the follow on against Maris Stella College in their first-round fixture. St. Sebastian’s after being bowled out for a modest 212 runs despite their having an in-form batting line-up were up to the mark with the ball. Malintha Silva was yet again among the wickets for St. Sebastian’s College extending his wicket tally for this season.

St. Benedict’s College posted a competitive total, with Janindu Nandasena anchoring the innings with a solid 73. Aaron De Silva and Darien Diego led the charge with the ball, sharing the wickets to bowl them out. In reply, S. Thomas’ College made steady progress, reaching 109/2 at stumps, with Dineth Goonewardene looking untroubled on 55* and Avinash Fernando providing solid support.
