It has been almost the ‘near-perfect’ visit to the Pearl for Pakistan. Having won a Test and an ODI series after 9 years in Sri Lanka, the visitors will now be aiming for success in the shortest format of the game.
With a Test series win in Sri Lanka after 9 years, the Pakistanis are seeking for success in an ODI series on Sri Lankan soil for nearly a decade. The rivals are scheduled to lock horns in a 5 match ODI series beginning tomorrow (11th June) at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
The 3 match Test series between the hosts Sri Lanka and Pakistan will kick off with the first Test at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera picked up yet another Man-of-the-Match award for his swashbuckling 65 and three wicket haul that helped the hosts to win the second ODI against Pakistan by 77 runs and square the three match series.
Sri Lanka lead the three-Test series 1-0 against Pakistan and have an 87-run first-innings lead in the third Test. On day four, Sri Lanka adopt an overly cautious approach as they stumble along at 2.1 runs per over in their second innings and are wiped out the next day, shortly before lunch.
The most recent Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was also the last time Pakistan took to the field in cricket's longest format, six months ago in the United Arab Emirates. On that occasion a tightly fought three-match series ended in a 1-1 draw, which Pakistan snatched in the final match, at Sharjah, by chasing down 302 for the loss of five wickets in just 57.3 overs.
