Sooriyabandara shows stubborn resistance after India U19 slam 613

The 2nd day of the 2nd Youth Test between Sri Lanka U19 and India U19 got underway today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa…

Left-handed Sonal Dinusha (51), after reaching his well-deserved 50 was bowled by off-spinner Ayush Badoni. This wicket also paved the way for the Indians to run through the Lankan inning quickly.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara who scored an impressive century departed soon as was caught off a Mohit Jangra delivery on 115. His magnificent inning consisted of 17 boundaries.

Apart from Sooriyabandara, Dinusha and Kamil Mishara (44) the only other batsman in the Lankan line-up who didn’t fail in this inning was Sandun Mendis. The all-rounder from Galle battled alone for his 49 as wickets kept falling in the other end.

Sri Lanka U19 eventually were all-out for 316 runs, 297 runs behind the Indian 1st inning score of 613. Sandun Mendis was the last man to fall.

Mohit Jangra was the leading wicket-taker for the visitors as he took 4 wickets. Yatin Mangwani, Ayush Badoni and Siddharth Desai picked up 2 wickets each.

With a lead of almost 300 the Indian captain Anuj Rawat enforced the hosts to follow-on. The Lankan batsmen once again found themselves reeling as they lost 3 wickets in the last hour of today’s play.

Arjun Tendulkar’s left-arm pace started the damage for the Lankans as he picked up Kamil Mishara in his 2nd over. The home captain once again failed to score a good one as he was dismissed just for 8. He was out for a golden duck in the 1st inning.

Opening batsman and wicket-keeper Nishan Madushka was the only batsman who reached double figures for Sri Lanka U19s today. Unfortunately he was also dismissed in the penultimate over of the day by Badoni.

Nuwanidu Fernando (2) and night-watchman Kalhara Senaratne (0) remained unbeaten for the hosts as they finished yet another disappointing day on 47/3.

The last day of the match will be interesting to watch as the young Lions will come out to try and bat throughout the day to see off another defeat.
