Trinco-Batti Combined Schools toppled Cricket Seenigama, one of the tournament favourites, during a dramatic encounter at Kilinochchi on day two of the 2013 Murali Harmony Cup.

Trinco-Batti Combined had struggled against a slick Trinity College on the opening day and looked in trouble again after scoring just 166 for 8 in their 20 overs before a brave fight-back with the ball.

Cricket Seenigama were cruising early on, but collapsed spectacularly and were eventually bowled out for just 66 in 14 overs. Man of the match AIM Hiraz claimed 3 for 19.

Elsewhere on day two, Jaffna Combined kept their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals still flickering  and a nail-biting 5-run victory over Anuradhapura Central.

Having been bowled out for 110 in 18.4 overs their bowlers, led by G. Mathushan with 3 for 3, fought hard to bowl out Anuradhapura for 105.

St Peter’s College, the defending champions, completed a confident 7-wicket win against Mannar-Vavuniya Combined and Trinity College were too strong for Kilinochchi, winning by six wickets.

The Murali Harmony Cup is a 20-team reconciliation cricket tournament staged in to promote unity, goodwill, teamwork, the spirit of fair play and, more importantly, service to disadvantaged rural communities in post-war Sri Lanka.

The tournament has been jointly organised by former Sri Lanka cricketer Muttiah Muralidharan’s charity the Foundation of Goodness, travel company Red Dot Tours and the Sri Lanka Army.

The 5-day event featuring U19 schoolboys and U23 women cricketers is being played at five grounds across Northern Sri Lanka in the towns of Jaffna, Oddusuddan, Mankulam, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya from 1-5 November.
