Ten of the squad picked for Scotland’s quadrangular T20 series in May in Oman have been retained, a highly successful tour which saw them finish as victors before beating Oman 2-1 in a separate one-day series.

The two-match ODI series will be played on 8 and 10 May at The Grange, Edinburgh, and 24-year old bowler Main, who is contracted at Durham, could be in line to make his debut.

Afghanistan currently sit at No.7 in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I team rankings, while Scotland are one place above Zimbabwe in 12th.

Shane Burger, the national side’s head coach, said his side are confident gong into the series. “We are excited to bring our white-ball game back to Edinburgh for the first time since June 2018. The squad is raring to go having wintered well and recorded series wins in Oman against quality opposition,” he said.

“We certainly go into the series with a lot of confidence and we are ready to face the challenge of a strong Afghanistan unit. We feel we are covered in all departments and fans can expect a positive brand of cricket from the team ahead of an important year of cricket.”

“The inclusion of Tom Sole (Northamptonshire), Brad Wheal (Hampshire), Gavin Main (Durham) and Michael Jones (Durham) add to the skillsets we require and fall into the bracket of the brand of cricket we want to play. We are excited to bring them onboard for the series.
