Since this is a Grade “C” competition, she will gain valuable 60 points for the 1st place finish and a total of 1128 performance points for her best legal leap (6.29m) which means she will be placed at 1172 average performance score in the ‘Road to Oregon’ rankings in the next Rankings update. She needs to be within the top 32 places in the rankings to qualify for the World Athletics Championships 2022 which will be held in the USA from 15th -24th July.

Meanwhile other 3 athletes, namely Sumedha Ranasinghe, Kalinga Kumarage and Gayanthika Abeyratne who have joined Silva in Switzerland, couldn’t hang on to any medals today.

National Javelin champion Sumedha Ranasinghe produced a distance of 70.21m in the finals and placed 4th in the competition. Unfortunately, this performance from Jayasinghe is not up to his usual standards even though Ranasinghe has been pretty consistent this season, as he hurled 78m+ thrice this season.

This performance won’t improve Ranasinghe’s Rankings in the ‘Road to Oregon’ list. He is currently sitting at 30th position (Quota 32) but he will probably need a performance close to his PB (83.04m) to secure his place for the World Athletics Championships 2022.

The 400m National Champion Kalinga Kumarage delivered a timing of 46.42s (6th place) in the final while Gayanthika Abeyratne, 800m national record holder made another impressive time in her cracking season with a race of 2:03.62min (9th place).

All four athletes will be participating in another World Athletics – Continental tour- Bronze Meet on 14th June in Switzerland.
