St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa registered a thumping win against St. Anne’s Kurunegala in a Tier A tournament fixture today (18).

Having driven up to Kurunegala, St. Sebastian’s skipper Sandeesh Fernando opted to bowl first after calling the coin right.

Rightly so, their opening bowlers teared apart the St. Anne’s batting line up with Sajan Wijeratne and Yashin Fernando pairing up to dismiss 7 of the home team batters.

Wijeratne ended with 4 scalps to his name bowling 9.2 overs at an expense of 35 runs while Fernando bagged 3 wickets for 16 runs in his 9 overs.

It was a blow that the Annites did never recover from as they bundled out for 81 runs inside 25 overs on the first morning.

But, when the boys from Moratuwa walked out to bat, they made it look like a completely different pitch that they were playing on. The openers posted a 116 runs stand early on and the score kept on piling up.

Ryan Dissanayake made a stylish 78 runs at the top of the order while his opening partner Sanesh Fernando scored a well-made 64 runs. Mahen Silva was the other half-centurion of the innings as the middle-order batter scored a quick-fire 51 runs off 32 deliveries.

Commencing their second essay, the Annites were outplayed once again. This time it was Manuja Chanthuka who did major damage from the St. Sebastian’s camp. He picked up a fifer having bowled a long spell from one end to see the game wrapped and sealed in St. Sebastian’s favour.

Yashin Fernando also picked up 3 wickets in the second innings to wrap up a match bag of 6 wickets.

St. Anne’s College succumbed to 102 runs in the second innings handing a massive win of an innings and 170 runs for the visitors.
