Three encounters from Group A and, three encounters from Group B were played. Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and Colombo Cricket Club registered victories over Tamil Union Cricket Club and Burgher Recreation Club respectively.
Negombo Cricket Club vs Sinhalese Sports Club
The Group A encounter between Negombo Cricket Club and Sinhalese Sports Club ended in a draw today at SSC Grounds in Colombo. The hosts fell short by 19 runs of the visitors’ first innings score as they made 409 runs today for their first innings. The hard-hitting batsman Dasun Shanaka stroked 130 runs off 177 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 73.44.
Upul Indrasiri (5/110) and Roshen Fernando (4/114) did well with the ball for the visitors sharing 9 wickets among them. The Group A encounter between Army Cricket Club and Colts Cricket Club, ended in a draw today at Colts Grounds in Colombo. The hosts were bowled out today for 336 runs for their first innings in reply to the score of 270 made by the Soldiers for their first innings. The wicket-keeper batsman Vishad Randika top-scored with a brilliant century.
Army Cricket Club began their second innings 66 runs behind and put on 268 runs in 68.4 overs. Sri Lanka test capped Dinesh Chandimal scored 89 runs. Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera and left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya picked up 3 wickets apiece.

Colombo Cricket Club defeated Burgher Recreation Club by 145 runs in their Group A encounter which ended today at BRC Grounds. The visitors declared their second innings at 267 for 6 setting a target of 407 runs to win for BRC. The 19-year old Pawantha Weerasingha (82) and Ron Chandraguptha (77) stroked half-tons for the visitors.
The left-arm spinner Duvindu Tillakaratne completed his 10-wicket haul for the match taking a 4-wicket haul in the second innings. Chasing 407 runs to win the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 261 runs.
The left-handed stroke maker Bhanuka Rajapakshe who made a half-ton in the first innings tried his best to come close to the target scoring 93 runs. Off-spinner Ashan Priyanjan excelled with the ball picking up a 5-wicket haul for the visitors.

Chilaw Marians registered a comprehensive 9-wicket win over Tamil Union Cricket Club in the Group B encounter which worked off today at P. Sara Oval Grounds in Colombo. The hosts showed a better batting display today in the second innings posting 298 but the visitors were set an easy target of 115 runs to win the match.
Manoj Sarathchandra was the star with the bat for Tamil Union as he stroked a classy 158. The right-arm speedster Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he took 4 scalps for 92 runs. The visitors were in a hurry as they chased down the target of 115 runs in 17 overs. Indian cricketer Sumit Ghadigaonkar who is making his first-class debut stroked an unbeaten 55 runs.
