Table leaders SL Navy played to their expectations as they defeated Police SC 2-1 at the Police Park grounds.

From the beginning they were attacking and testing the defence line of Police. Police on the other hand had nothing to lose showed some perseverance and fight. Possession in the first half was quiet equal even though SL navy looked far better in game play.

The two forwards of SL navy Sakeef and YM Hettiarachchi created many opportunities but couldn’t finish it off. There was considerable improvement in the police defence from their last match against Colombo FC which was atrocious and was lucky only to concede three goals.

Police played well in patches, their right extreme Chamira Chrishantha managed to cross the ball towards the goal but the forwards couldn’t find the back of the net. SL Navy’s defense was firm and strong. First half ended with no goals to either of the teams.

Second half started with an early goal to Navy. They were probing around the Police penalty box, when YM Hettiarachchi fired the ball which was deflected on to Sakeef who scored an easy goal just outside the penalty box. Moments later Police conceded another goal. This time it was YM Hettiarachchi who worked the ball from the half way line and scored splendid goal by showing his true colours to all his supporters.

After those two quick goals SL Navy strengthened their defense by making a couple of substitutions since they knew they had the upper hand. KMA Abrev of Navy who played as a midfielder had a brilliant game fired some shots from just outside the penalty box but it was well kept by Damith Sashika. As the score line suggests second half possession was mostly taken by SL Navy. Just before the final whistle Police managed to score a concelation goal.
