The national selection committee has recalled fast-bowling all-rounder Farveez Maharoof, opening batsman Upul Tharanga and off-spinner Suraj Randiv to the ODI squad to face Ireland and England.

Opening batsman Danushka Gunathilake and leg-spinning all-rounder Seekkuge Prasanna have also been selected to join the Sri Lanka squad for the limited-overs leg.

Maharoof ended as the top wicket-taker in the Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16 with 16 wickets from 5 matches at a superb average of 6.31. He has been largely picked for his experience of 104 ODIs and 133 ODI wickets. He last played an ODI for Sri Lanka in 2012 against Bangladesh.

Left-handed Tharanga has been scoring heavily in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League amassing 386 runs in 7 matches with 4 four half-centuries. He was a part of the ODI squad which played at home against Pakistan in 2015. The 31-year old opening batsman has played 180 ODIs so far in his 11-year ODI career. With 13 centuries to his name, he has scored over 5400 runs.

Suraj Randiv has been picked largely due to domestic performances.  He took 7 wickets in 5 games for Galle CC in the Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16 and 50 wickets in 10 matches with an average of 28.50 in the Premier League Tournament 2015/16. He last played an ODI game for Sri Lanka in 2014 against India.

With TM Dilshan opting out of selection due to personal reasons, SSC opening batsman and Captain Danushka Gunathilake who scored 270 runs in 5 games in the Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16 has also been named in squad.

Seekkuge Prasanna is already in England and will join the squad immediately while the other four players, Maharoof, Tharanga, Gunathilake and Randiv will fly to United Kingdom shortly.

Nuwan Kulasekara, Sachithra Senanayake and Thisara Perera, who have regularly featured in Sri Lanka’s limited overs teams, have missed out on selection while Jeffrey Vandersay will sit out the series as he is still recovering from a finger injury he sustained prior to the England tour.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will announce the final 15-man squad for the limited overs games at the conclusion of the Test series.
