Morecambe Cricket Club believe they have pulled off a coup with the signing of a Sri Lankan international as their professional for the 2015 season.

All-rounder Suraj Randiv has played 12 tests and 30 one-day internationals for his country with big things expected of him at Woodhill Lane this summer.

The off-break bowler replaces South African Corne Dry who is unable to come over to England this summer as he has Twenty20 Champions League commitments with his Knights franchise.

New Morecambe skipper Josh Dixon said: “He’s (Randiv) really keen to come over.

“It’s a really exciting signing, he only just missed out on the World Cup squad.

“He’s a bowler number one but has three first-class hundreds to his name so is certainly no mug with the bat.

“It’s fantastic to have an international cricketer.

“I think he’s going to be a real competitor.”

Randiv, 30, played in Sri Lanka’s 2011 World Cup final defeat to India and has also played in the lucrative Indian Premier League.

The Northern League season kicks off this Saturday with Morecambe without a game.

Dixon will instead take his side to Ramsbottom for a friendly on Saturday before they travel to Netherfield on April 25
