Right-arm seamer Lahiru Kumara will not be available for selection due to a finger injury sustained at training ahead of second ODI match against South Africa, Sri Lanka Captain Angelo Mathews confirmed on Tuesday.

“He will not be in contention since splitting the webbing between his little finger and ring finger on his left-hand. We will take a decision on the replacement before start of play.” Mathews said to the media.

21-year old Kumara bowled three overs in the first ODI conceding only 11 runs. Kumara’s express pace will surely be missed as Sri Lanka are desperate to level the series after going down by 5 wickets in the first match.

This means that the hosts will likely feature a debutant in their line-up, with fellow paceman Kasun Rajitha being the front-runner to take Kumara’s spot.

Rajitha was impressive in the Caribbean tour with the Test team taking 11 wickets in 2 games on seam-friendly surfaces.

26-year old uncapped left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya could also be an option if the home team opts for three spinners.
