Sri Lankan cap Jeewan Mendis helped Tamil Union record their first win of the season over Chilaw Marians in the SLC Premier League Tournament 2016/17 while NCC, Moors and CCC took first innings points in their drawn games.

Tamil Union vs Chilaw Marians

Leg spinning all-rounder Jeewan Mendis made 115 with the bat and took a match-bag of 8 for 135 to help Tamil union record a six-wicket win over Chilaw Marians in their group A encounter which worked off at FTZ grounds.

Chilaw Marians after been asked to follow-on yesterday were bowled out for 297 in their second inning after being 182 for 2 at one stage. The visitors were left with an easy target of 67 which they got losing only 4 wickets. For the hosts, Sachithra Serasinghe, Mahela Udawatta, Ashen Silva and Shehan Jayasuriya went on to make half centuries.

Colts vs CCC

Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) took major honours in their drawn group B game against a young Colts outfit at Colts grounds in Havelock Town.

Resuming at 40 for no loss, Colts went on to make a resounding 316 for 6 at close of play on day three. Right-handed Hashan Dumindu scored a steady 69 off 148 balls following his century in the first innings, and supported by Angelo Jayasinghe who made a solid 52. Sri Lanka ODI Left arm spinner Sachith Pathirana took 4 for 86 for visitors with the ball.

Moors SC v Army SC

Shanuka Dulaj’s heroics earlier on day one and left handers, Primosh Perera and Thilina Thushara’s fifties helped Moors dominate their Group B encounter worked off against Army SC at Moors grounds.

Left handed opening batsman Primosh Perera scored a classy 69 off 113 balls and hard hitting all-rounder Thilina Thushara made a  run-a-ball 52 with 3 sixes and 5 fours to help Moors SC make 219 for 8 wickets in their 2nd innings. Left arm spinner Viraj Pushpakumara captured 3 wickets for Army SC as the hosts set up a huge target of 354 for the visitors. The Soldiers safely batted the final session to get 169 for 3 in 29 overs. Dushan Vimukthi cracked 54 and debutant left-arm spinner, Sandakan Pathirana ended up with a match-bag of 7 wickets.

Udara Jayasundera scored his second century (109) of the SLC Premier Tournament.

NCC v SSC

Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Chathuranga De Silva were the main highlighted players in the drawn Group A game between the neighbours, SSC and NCC at SSC grounds.

With the first innings points already in the bag, NCC declared their 2nd innings at 232 for 4 setting up a mammoth target of 407 for the home team. In-form batsman Niroshan Dickwella scored 79 and was supported by middle order batsman Chathuranga De Silva who scored a quick-fire 52 from only 41 deliveries. Off spinner Gunathilaka bagged 3 wickets for SSC.

In pursuit of 407, SSC finished the day at 172 losing only 4 wickets. Gunathilaka who made a stunning century in the first innings continued his good form with another fifty while former U19 captain Charith Asalanka also scored a fifty to steady the ship for SSC.
