England resumed their innings on day 02, at 354/3 after their dominating day 01 batting display thanks to a century by Zak Crawley and a brilliant unbeaten partnership between skipper Joe Root and Ollie Pope for the 4th wicket.

Overnight batsmen, Root reached his century in no time and the partnership (190 runs) was broken with the Root’s wicket who was on 102. Pope also had to depart after an exceptional inning of 95 as the left-arm spinner Pabath Jayasuriya ran through England batting line-up on day 02 morning bagging 6 wickets.

Jayasuriya restricted England innings to 463, which otherwise showed the signs of a much larger score.

In reply, Sri Lanka BP XI opener Pathum Nissanka was out on a first-ball duck and another youngster Sadeera Samarawickarama soon followed Nissanka to the dressing room for just 4 runs.

The only batsman to succeed for the home team was the skipper Lahiru Thirimanne who notched up an attacking 87 runs at a healthy 77.0 Strike rate before the game was called off.

Sri Lanka innings had to be ended at 149/3 as the game was concluded as a No result.
