The currently touring English outfit took part in their 2nd warm-up match of the tour today against Sri Lanka board President’s XI in a 4-day encounter today (12) at the P. Sara Stadium, Colombo.

Joe Root who led England, won the toss and elected to bat first, trying to test their batting line-up in the hot and humid conditions in Colombo. They performed superbly during the 90 overs bowled today, dominating the opposition from the word go.

Openers Zak Crawley and Dominic Sibley had a promising century partnership up front. However, Sibley who could not make much in the first warm-up game, had to depart for 37 off Ramesh Mendis’ bowling.

Kusal Perera called back for England Tests

His partner Crawley, On the back of a 43 & 91 in the last warm-up game, launched a brilliant century which included 11 boundaries, making life hard for the Lankan bowlers who were already playing under difficult conditions on the field at P. Sara.

Right-arm seamer Mohamed Siraz managed to rattle the stumps of the centurion when he was on 105, but it was the last wicket to fall on the day as the next in skipper Joe Root and youngster Ollie Pope built an unbeaten 175-run partnership for the 4th wicket before the close of play on day 01.

Priyanjan stars for SLC XI as English spinners warm-up well

Root and Pope remained at the crease on 90 and 84 respectively at stumps. Another busy day is in store for the home team, considering the level of batting that has to take place.
