Dilan Udayanga of Army SC has been handed a two match ban and a further Rs.5000 fine by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), as a result of using abusive language towards the match referee during a Champions League Super 8 week 1 match against Air Force SC.

Dilan Udayanga faces a one year ban

Army SC’s Dilan Udayanga faces a possible one year ban after being sent off for using foul language on the referee in the recently concluded Dialog Champions League Super 8 encounter against Air Force at the Race Course International Stadium.

Exclusively talking to ThePapare.com the CEO of the FFSL Mr.U.L.Jazwar said;

“It is clearly noted that Dilan Udayanga of Army Sports Club used abusive language towards the referee. Siting the evidence the competition department unanimously decided to ban Dilan Udayanga of Army Sports Club for two matches conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka to be effected on 3rd September further to impose a fine of Rs.5000.”

The incident occurred during the 67th minute of the first match of the Super 8 phase between Army SC and Air Force SC.

Dilan was penalized for intentionally delaying a free kick by referee Buddika Dias. After receiving his first caution he went on to show his dissent to the referee and was shown a second yellow card immediately hence got his marching orders.

Noteworthy, for a similar incident during the FA Cup Final of 2015/2016 played between Army SC and Renown SC, Francis Agbeti of Renown SC received a red card during the latter stages of the first half. The Football Federation of Sri Lanka inflicted further punishment for the full-back as he was banned for a year from playing competitive football in Sri Lanka.

At the end of their first Super 8 match against Blue Star SC talking to ThePapare.com the Coach of Renown SC Mohamed Amanullah stated;

“So today an Army player got sent off for bad-mouthing the referee, it’ll be interesting to see if he also receives a one year ban like one of my players did.”

It is clear as daylight that both players were penalized for a similar violation of rules, however, in comparison to Dilan Udayanga, Francis Agbeti seemingly has received a rather harsh treatment by the FFSL as Renown SC were hampered by the lack of his services in this year’s Dialog Champions League.
