Colombo FC kicked off the game in 3rd position after dropping 3 points which they got for the win against Super Sun SC and Java Lane dropped to the relegation battle after Saunders won against New Youngs in the earlier game.

Colombo got the first corner in the 6th minute. A high ball to the far post was headed back to the six-yard box by Niran Kanishka. As the ball dropped through the crowd and Java Lane failed to clear, Mohamed Aakib took the lucky bounce and slotted it in for the first goal.

Java Lane’s first attacking move came through the middle when Shafraz Kaiz sent a delightful ball into the path of Mohamed Abdullah, whose first-time effort went agonizingly close, over the cross bar.

Aakib came close to increasing the lead for Colombo after a ball from Mohamed Fazal which found Zarwan Johar inside the box. Johar headed the ball to the on rushing Aakib who couldn’t get a clear shot, letting Java Lane off the hook.

Shafraz Kaiz was the threat for Java Lane to the Colombo FC defense, with his runs. As he linked with Malaka Perera, a shot at goal from the latter hit Rawme Mohideen inside the box. An appeal for handball was denied by referee Dilan Perera.

Mohamed Imran made a vital save off a long-range effort from Mohamed Aleem as Java Lane started to gather momentum and looked threatening, with good passing and moves.

With the momentum with the Slave Island boys, Shafraz Kaiz converted a brilliant counter attacking move by Lakmal Perera. Mohamed Imran could have done better as the ball slipped through his hands and into the back of the net.

Just before the break Ashfaq Ayub made a smart save off Bodric Dimitri and on the other end Imran made a save to deny Malaka Perera as referee Dilan called half time.

The second half started as the first with Colombo FC looking to take the advantage by holding on to possession and Java Lane looking to counter attack.

Malaka Perera got a peach of a cross from Shafraz Kaiz and with Mohamed Imran committing and missing the ball, Perera just had to find a slot to put in the ball. Instead he went for power and hit it over the cross bar.

Zarwan Johar scored the second for Colombo FC as he was left unmarked at the top of the box as Shiraz Jain made a committing run and laid it to Johar. He curled it past the diving Ayub into the far-right corner.

Immediately after the restart, Colombo FC increase the lead through Mohamed Aakib as he got to the end of a lob from Mohamed Rifnaz.

Java Lane were given a lifeline immediately after as Colombo FC skipper Rawme Mohideen headed into his own net. Java Lane made a brilliant comeback with a thundering strike from Revin Kumar to level the game in an extraordinary turn of events.

Both teams then made surprise substitutions of their goalkeepers as the experienced Dammika Senarath came in for Java Lane and Kaveesh Fernando for Colombo.

Mohamed Abdullah then took a remarkable shot from the left wing to beat Kaveesh. The brilliant strike gave Java Lane the lead for the first time. Bodric Dimitri then copied the goal of Abdullah and curled in from the right. Dammika Senarath was beaten in flight as the ball nestled in the far post.

Thereafter, Kaiz hit the cross bar and the rebound effort too bounced off the bar for a goal kick. Dammika Senarath denied Dimitri after Momas Yapo set him up as both teams went hammer and tongs at each other as full time approached.

In the closing minutes Shafraz Kaiz hit the upright from a free kick as the game came to a boiling point with players going at each other. Dilan Kaushalya then got Senarath to save a shot from close range as the action did not stop till the long whistle.

Dimitri had the opportunity to win it for Colombo in the dying seconds, but after making himself some space he could only volley the ball on the turn just over the crossbar.
