Dialog Champions League to start on September 2nd

The much awaited and talked about 2017 Dialog Champions League will kick-off on the 2nd of September.

Sri Lanka’s most prolific sponsor of sports, Dialog Axiata PLC, will sponsor the Champions League for a record twelfth year in 2017, with 18 teams competing for the ultimate crown this year.

Unlike the last couple of years this time the tournament will be played on a ‘league basis’ with the matches spread around 17 weeks. This season will feature 153 matches played at over 10 different venues.

Colombo FC are the defending champions after they defeated title rivals Renown SC in the final game week last season. Colombo FC won the championship in 2015 as well and are chasing a hat-trick of championship wins.

From last season Java Lane SC, Thihariya Youth SC, Civil Security SC and Matara City were demoted but after a special executive committee decision the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) decided not to demote Java Lane & Matara City.

DCL16 – Bottom Four Teams

The 2016 Premier League Division I Champions Moragasmulla SC and runners-up Pelicans SC have also been promoted to the Champions League.

The opening match of the 2017 Dialog Champions League will take place on 2nd September at the Vernon Fernando Stadium between Blue Star SC and Super Sun SC.
