Dasun Shanaka likely to miss entire T20 series against West Indies

Sri Lanka’s newly appointed T20I Skipper Dasun Shanaka is certain to miss the first 2 T20Is against West Indies and most probably the entire T20I series as well, as he is still waiting for the approval of his USA visa. 

Shanaka missed the flight to West Indies four days ago as he had lost one of his passports in 2018, which had a USA visa stamped on for five years. Though Shanaka has a new passport to travel overseas, the, new USA visa has not been issued yet for it.

According to the quarantine regulations in Antigua where the T20 series is played at, players have to go through 3 days of quarantine on arrival, which means that he will definitely miss the first 2 games of the series.

Shanaka will fly to the West Indies as soon as he receives his USA visa. In the absence of Shanaka, Sri Lanka’s most capped T20 cricketer in the squad, Angelo Mathews is likely to lead the side in the T20 series.

Sri Lanka Cricket team arrived in Antigua on 25th February and is currently undergoing 3 days of quarantine, as they are expected to commence training on Monday (01st March). 

The 3-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and West Indies will begin on 3rd March at Antigua.
